Silicone Structural Sealant Usage Process Guide
Silicone structural adhesive should be used in a clean environment with a temperature of 10℃~40℃ and a relative humidity of 40%~80%, so that a better bonding effect can be obtained.
Application of silicone structural adhesive
Temporary protective tape should be affixed to the nearby parts of the surface of the cleaned substrate to be bonded. If a primer is to be used, it should be done before applying the glue.
Single-component structural adhesive can be squeezed directly from a plastic tube or sausage-shaped packaging with a manual or pneumatic glue gun; two-component structural adhesive must be injected using a special glue injection mixing equipment.
The extrusion action of the structural adhesive should be carried out continuously, so that the glue is evenly and continuously squeezed out of the glue injection gun nozzle in a cylindrical shape, and the diameter of the gun nozzle should be smaller than the thickness of the glue injection interface so that the gun nozzle can extend into half of its depth. The gun nozzle should move evenly and slowly to ensure that the interface is filled with sealant to prevent the gun nozzle from moving too fast and generating bubbles or cavities.
After the injection is completed, the modification should be carried out immediately. The usual method is to use a scraper to force the excess structural glue outside the interface into the interface and scrape the interface surface in sequence to make the glue contact the side of the interface, and then peel off all temporary protective tapes.
After the above process, a label with the date and number should be immediately attached to the unit, and it should be moved horizontally to the curing area for curing. During the process of moving, the aluminum frame and the glass are not allowed to be misaligned, otherwise it will affect the bonding quality of the structural glue.
The curing area must be clean and well ventilated. The temperature should be maintained at 10-40℃ and the humidity should be maintained at 50-90%. If the humidity is lower than 50%, the curing time of the unit should be extended.
The unit must be cured for a sufficient time under static and unstressed conditions so that the structural glue can produce sufficient adhesion. The unit product can only be shipped and installed after the rubber cutting inspection is qualified. It should be noted that the curing of the glue and the establishment of the adhesiveness of the glue are independent. Even if the sealant is fully cured, it does not mean that the glue and the substrate have established complete adhesion. Therefore, sufficient time should be allowed to establish adhesion before the curtain wall unit is subjected to stress.
Users should note that when the design width of the glue joint is greater than 16mm, the double-sided glue coating method should be used as much as possible, that is, the double-sided adhesive strip is placed in the middle of the glue joint, and glue is applied on both sides of the adhesive strip to speed up the curing of the glue and avoid affecting the deep curing of the glue due to the poor air permeability of the double-sided adhesive strip.
