Safety advice (if you must use alcohol silicone glue (de-alcoholized type) for polycarbonate (PC))
Although the de-alcoholized type is safer than the de-acidified type, the following steps must be strictly followed:
Prefer products with the “PC compatible” mark:
Check the technical data sheet (TDS) to confirm that it is clearly marked “suitable for polycarbonate” or “plastic compatible”.
Avoid general-purpose dealcoholized glue (unless it is clearly stated to be compatible with PC).
Thoroughly test compatibility:
Apply glue to PC waste or hidden places, and observe for more than 7 days after curing.
Check for the presence of: cracks, whitening, deformation, and decreased adhesion.
Control construction conditions:
Good ventilation: accelerate the volatilization of alcohols and reduce vapor accumulation.
Thin coating construction: reduce the amount of contact between uncured glue and PC.
Avoid high temperature and high humidity environment: hot and humid conditions will aggravate PC hydrolysis and solvent penetration.
Surface pretreatment:
Cleaning carefully with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) (wipe quickly and dry immediately), avoid prolonged contact.
It is recommended to use neutral detergent + water for cleaning instead, and apply glue after thorough drying.
