Preparing Foam Before Using

Preparing Foam Before Using

Materials and Tools:

Can of foam glue

Matched plastic spray tube (usually included with the can)

Cleaning agent (specialized detergent or acetone, for cleaning the spray tube and any uncured foam on your hands)

Gloves (very important to prevent foam from sticking to your skin)

Safety glasses (to prevent foam from splashing into your eyes)

Respirator (to reduce inhalation of fumes)

Utility knife or saw blade (for cutting off excess foam after curing)

Spray bottle (filled with water, for moistening the surface)

Masking tape (optional, for protecting surfaces not requiring foaming)

Surface Preparation:

Cleaning: Ensure the inside and surrounding surfaces of the gap or hole to be filled are clean, dry, and free of oil, dust, and loose debris. Oil and dust can significantly affect the foam’s adhesion and expansion.

Moistening: Before application, use a spray bottle to spray a light mist of water onto the inside and surrounding surfaces of the gap. Polyurethane foam requires moisture to cure, and moistening the surface significantly promotes curing, improves adhesion, and reduces shrinkage. This is a critical step!

Ambient Temperature:

The optimal application temperature is typically between 5°C and 35°C. Temperatures too low (<5°C) can severely affect the foam’s expansion and curing speed, and may even prevent proper use. Temperatures too high (>35°C) can cause the foam to cure too quickly, making it difficult to control and increasing pressure inside the can.

If using in winter, soak the foam can in warm water (no higher than 30°C) for 5-10 minutes beforehand to improve the fluidity of the material inside the can and ensure proper spraying and expansion. Never use boiling water or open flames to heat the foam!

Ensure good ventilation in the working area.
