Post-Application Treatment for Polyurethane Sealant

Post-Application Treatment for Polyurethane Sealant
Curation:

Touch Dry Time: This refers to the time it takes for a skin to form on the sealant surface, typically ranging from tens of minutes to several hours (affected by temperature and humidity). Protect the sealant from rain, contact, and contamination until it is completely dry.

Curing Time: This refers to the time it takes for the sealant to fully cure (crosslinking reaction complete) from the outside in and achieve its final physical properties. Typically:

24-48 hours: Initial cure, allowing the sealant to withstand light external forces.

7 days or more: Most of the final properties are achieved (approximately 80-90%).

14-21 days or even longer: Full final properties are achieved (100%). Avoid subjecting the joint to significant movement or load until the sealant is fully cured.

Factors Affecting Curing: Temperature (higher temperatures cure faster), humidity (polyurethane sealants require moisture from the air to cure; too low or too high humidity is detrimental), and adhesive layer thickness (thicker layers cure slower).

Cleaning:

If adhesive accidentally gets on skin, tools, or unintended substrates during application, immediately wipe it off with a cloth dampened with a cleaning solvent (such as acetone) (ensure proper ventilation). Once cured, it will be extremely difficult to remove.

After curing, excess adhesive can be carefully scraped off with a mechanical method (such as a blade).
