Adhesives for Mirror Bonding
Adhesives for Mirror Bonding:
Specialized mirror adhesive: This is the safest and most reliable option. Be sure to choose a product clearly labeled for mirror use.
Neutral-cure silicone sealant: Some high-quality neutral-cure silicone adhesives (especially those specifically labeled for use on mirrors or metal/glass) present a lower risk. However, be sure to carefully read the product instructions to confirm that it is suitable for mirrors. Avoid acidic silicone adhesives (those with an acetic acid odor), as they are highly corrosive to mirror backing coatings.
Epoxy or acrylic structural adhesive: These adhesives are good choices when extreme structural strength is required (e.g., for large, heavy mirrors) and the bonding surface can be completely concealed (either spot-bonding or back-bonding). They generally have excellent adhesion to both metal and glass and are non-corrosive. However, they can be more difficult to apply and lack elasticity after curing.
Double-sided foam tape (VHB tape): For small to medium-sized, lightweight mirrors, especially when quick installation with no visible seams is required, high-quality architectural double-sided foam tape (such as 3M VHB series) is a popular and reliable option. It does not corrode the back of the mirror and the stress is evenly distributed.
