Is it enough to just apply the sealant? Curing and maintenance are the lasting guarantee!
After applying the sealant, it looks smooth and beautiful, so everything is fine? Wrong! The curing process of the sealant from liquid to strong elastic body is the key period of performance formation. Ignoring this step, the risk of all previous efforts being wasted is extremely high.
Curing principle: Whether it is silicone glue, polyurethane glue or modified silane glue (MS glue), it needs to react chemically with moisture in the air (moisture curing) to achieve the designed strength. This process requires time and a suitable environment.
Key points of the curing period:
Time is strength: Surface dry (dust-free) does not mean curing! It usually takes 24-72 hours to reach usable strength (depending on the product, thickness, and environment). It may take 7 days or even longer to fully exert the best performance. Avoid pressing, stretching or touching the seams during this period.
Moisture is a friend: Make sure there is enough air humidity in the environment (but don’t soak it in water directly). Extremely dry environment will significantly slow down the curing speed.
The temperature should be appropriate: The ideal curing temperature for most sealants is between 5°C and 40°C. Too cold will slow down the curing or even stop; too hot may cause bubbling or cracking.
Keep it clean and dry: During the curing period, be sure to protect the glued area from rain and dirt. Especially in the first 24 hours, avoid contact with water (such as showering, washing).
Ventilation should be gentle: Ensuring air circulation helps moisture exchange, but avoid strong winds that cause the surface to crust too quickly and the internal curing to be poor.
Tips in one sentence: Give the sealant enough time and a suitable environment to “grow”, avoid disturbance and water immersion during the curing period, and patience will bring lasting seals!
